when things happen to you, have you ever thought why the other party has made a decision that might be perhaps, fair or unfair to you? why do you think such a decision made? have you ever thought abt it?

decisions are always made after consideration of, perhaps, personal gains, or for the greater good. what are the thoughts that actually run thru people's mind when they are asked to make a decision?

when i was young, when some decisions have to be made, with me being in the situation, i always thought the decision MUST be something that will benefit me. IT MUST. if not, i wldnt be able to accept it.

but now that i'm older, i start to wonder: what made them make such a decision? be it beneficial to me or not, what actually processes in their mind to make the final call?

i thought abt this because recently, my course had quite a commotion. our 3rd year plan was suddenly changed. at the end of year 2, our lecturer told us of a schedule that we will be going thru in year 3, and the assignments that are needed to be done. but now, the assignments were changed, which is supposingly harder (because we have to make 2 games instead of the initial 1 game)

i heard a few complaints from my classmates. abt the sudden change. and the spoiling of their group plan etc. but why did the lecturers make such a decision? personally, i spoke to one of my lecturers about this issue. he actually told me abt the plan before he announced it officially. i posed a few questions regarding the reasons to the decisions.

we were required to produce a full 3D game with 1 tutorial level, and 2 playable levels. and this will be marked as our core module assignment. the assignment time is the whole acad year.

but now, we are required to produce a full 3D game with 1 tutorial level, and 1 playable level (as proof of concept). and we are also required to do another casual game (be it 2D or 3D, the choice is ours) with 1 tutorial and 1 playable level as well. this casual game will take on a minor portion of our core module marking.

i tot abt the decision made. i tot it was a very good idea. at this point of time, i dont think anyone of us has gotten SO PRO that we can go into the industry and make a high quality game. so it's pretty pointless for us to create a supposingly full 3D game. 1 level is actually enough to be the proof of concept.

the casual game itself is another opportunity for us to do more games. and it also makes us learn more abt working in big groups and small groups, working on big games and small games. it makes us more versatile in that sense. and this decision was made so that all of us wld be able to learn more (for example, more people wld have been forced to do scripting).

but the bad point abt it wld be that we will have less time to work on the 3D game alone, now that we have 2 games to worry abt. it also means we have to juggle our teams (because we'll be working in different groups for each game), juggle our minds to the concept, and juggle our jobscopes altogether. it also means we have to work harder (good luck, lazy people).

at this point of time, considering all the supposing-facts, why was this decision made? for us to suffer? i doubt so. it's for us to become even BETTER. realise it man. the lecturers are trying to make us better, not to just make us work our asses off because they are sadistic or whatever.
