Everything has 2 edges to this world; the bright side, and the dark side.

Just like a sword, each side has its own sharp points. Almost every single situation can be visualized in 2 "edges".

Let's start with an example. When you're taking a seat in the MRT (yea, this example again), you see an elderly enter the premises, and you give up the seat (this time with good moral values). At this point of time, what are your views on this person who let up the seat to the elderly?

The bright side would be "this guy/girl is so kind",
but the dark side would be "he/she should let up the seat".

Just like for the person who lets up the seat, there may be 2 kinds of thoughts;
the bright side being "I should let up my seat.",
and the dark side being "walao, need to give up seat..."

Another example would be working. When given a task, what goes thru the worker's mind?
bright side: "It's my responsibility, I should do it."
dark side: "walao, can give someone else do? sian leh."

at the same time, what goes thru the task-assigner's mind?
bright side: "i trust he's/she's able to do it"
dark side: "i dont want to do this... aiya, give him/her do ba."

what about if someone treats you to something, because you did them a favour? for eg. an icecream? what goes thru the person's, receiving the ice cream, mind?
bright side: "Thank you! I'm so happy!"
dark side: "Yes, got free food. swee la. he/she shld treat me also, did them favour leh."

and of course, the person paying for the food?
bright side: "I ought to treat him/her."
dark side: "sian, waste money again."

it's realli interesting how a single event can trigger 2 kinds of contradicting thoughts. i realised this because i suffered this kind of things before; especially with my insensitive mouth.

many-a-times, i meant to say something that was of no harm, but many-a-times of these many-a-times, the meaning was translated in the wrong side -.- which resulted me in offending people sometimes, without myself noticing it. i realise, the problem actually lies in the selection of words; changing a word, can mean alot.

for example, just recently, one of my male colleagues asked a female colleague, "Why you so old then learn driving?" Old. sensitive word. hahaha. now think about it; if he changed the way of asking to "Why did you learn driving only now?", it would sound alot less "offensive". i mean like, some people are really sensitive to such words, so have to really watch out for it. hahahaha.

actually, analyzing the examples i've given, everytime the thing that goes thru my mind is both the bright side and dark side (well of course, if not how would i have thought of both of it -.-"). but i realised something: what if life is only 1-edged? and of course, i mean the bright side. alot of misunderstandings would realli have been cleared, and everyone would have been more true and sincere in life.

but den again, without the dark side, what would the bright side be? it would probably be just the norm, instead of something angelic.

you see, this is already another example of a double-edged situation; life would be better if you removed the bad part; but then again, who would have noticed that it is the good part that's going on?

without thieves, there wont be police. and very contradicting, if you had background in being a thief (please don't be one, im not encouraging anyone), you would have made a good cop, and vice versa. why? go figure.

and, raking up my previous post, parents loving their children. is loving their own children something that parents should do? or is it just something really noble, unconditional love? different people perceive it differently. i prefer to take the bright side. parents have no obligations to love their children. it's just something they want to do.

so for those who take parents for granted, please keep in mind - they are NOT obliged to take care of you, so stop dreaming.
